Customer Success Story
Award-winning NEC4 Tunnel Project Enhances Collaboration by Digitalisation in Scenario
SUMMARY
The tunnel project was the largest NEC4 contract in Hong Kong, and the project teams nurtured their
partnerships through digitalisation.
Embracing digital solutions facilitated information exchange, streamlined communication and enhanced collaboration in this complex project, leading to effective project delivery.
The foundation of trust among project teams was established through open communication and mutual respect, allowing for effective collaboration.
The project received ISO 19650 certification and was recognised in the project digitalisation category.
BACKGROUND
Email submissions in previous projects were not considered official until the hard copies were received by owner’s representatives. Implementing a PIMS provided the project teams with a single source of truth, allowing all team members to access the latest documents and information. A paperless approach was agreed upon, recognising all submissions and processes within Scenario as official.
SOLUTIONS
Scenario was selected for its adaptable metadata configuration and efficient workflow capabilities. This ensured the software met the requirements of both the contractor and owner’s representatives. Additionally, the built-in NEC clauses supported compliance with necessary documentation processes, such as early warnings and compensation events.

OUTCOMES
1. Reduced Paper Waste
The shift towards a paperless system has contributed to environmental conservation, resulting in the saving of approximately 25 million sheets of paper. This achievement is made possible by managing all submissions and project processes through Scenario, thereby streamlining operations and reducing waste.
2. Minimised Disruptions to Project Delivery
Scenario allowed project users to access crucial information from any location, ensuring all team members were aligned. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the system facilitated remote team collaboration, helping to minimize disruptions to the construction schedule.
